After a few delays Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp got a release date, which is the 21st of April 2023. Get ready and prepare to put your hands on this classic remake prepared for Nintendo Switch.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has been delayed a few times, first in 2021 until Spring 2022 and then, due to war conflict until further notice. But as this was announced during the last Nintendo Direct we got a final date, so everyone who has been waiting may feel relieved.
What is Advance Wars?
Advance Wars series is a turn-based strategy game that gained popularity on the Game Boy Advance console, but its genre roots go back a bit further, for that we have to go back to the game titled: Famicom Wars – a wargame game available on Famicom [NES].
Originally Advance Wars was only released in Japan and Nintendo never felt confident about releasing it anywhere else due to specific game mechanics, luckily developers fit in a nice in-game tutorial. As most people guess games become popular, and this is how we could see Advance Wars 2 and even more games from this series available on Nintendo DS, although one of the best is games available for Game Boy Advance.
As you know this is a turn-based strategy game where the player is set to reach specific objectives. For that we have missions and here is one important – defeat your enemy. You can do that by destroying all of the units controlled by your opponent or capturing the opponents headquarter.
A player with his chosen commander gets to battle on a specific map, each map has different terrain which will affect unit movements, vision, attack, and defense attributes. Different units can move within specific types of terrain like roads, woods, bases, ports, cities, seas, and more.
The game offers an entertaining battle system where players take turns to build their own units, deploy them, and battle. Each battle offers battle sequences where we can see how they attack, how many units have been lost, and how many of them survived.
Basic gameplay available within Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is the same as available in original games, nothing changed besides that this is a remake with few improvements, not only graphical.
You can play with bots and your friends online through multiplayer mode, previously this was possible by using a link cable.
But what can you create your own maps?
Of course, this will be available too, and should be more intuitive compared to GBA because we get to use a bigger screen.
Do I need to play originals?
You don’t have to play the originals as the game is a complete remake, but this decision is yours, if you want to feel free to do it, it might be an interesting experience to compare them, but be careful GBA game versions cost almost the same as a remake.
